อยากรู้ว่าถ้ามหาภารตะเดินทางมาถึงประเทศไทย แบบเดียวกับรามยานะ แล้วถ้าเรารู้จักตัวละครต่างๆ ใน The Palace of Illusions ดีเหมือนที่เรารู้จักพระลักษณ์ พระราม นางสีดา หนุมาน ทศกัณฐ์ เราจะรู้สึกยังไงกับพวกเขา จะรู้สึกแปลกๆ ไหมที่ทิวากรุณีจินตนาการไปเองว่ากฤษณาและกรรณะจริงๆ แล้วแอบหลงรักกัน (กรรณะนี่เท่าที่สืบค้นในวิกิพิเดีย เป็นตัวประกอบแทบไม่มีบทบาทเลย) จะรู้สึกยังไงกับสงครามทุ่งกุรุเกษตรที่เลือดสาดกระเซ็น และเล่าเหตุการณ์ผ่านการร่ำร้องของหญิงม่ายผู้สูญเสียสามีและลูกชาย (นึกภาพรามเกียรติ์ ที่มีเมียยักษ์เมียลิงมาคอยร้องห่มร้องไห้อยู่ริมสมรภูมิ) จะรู้สึกยังไงกับกลลวงของกฤษณะ ที่เสกภาพลวงตาให้ตะวันตกก่อนถึงเวลา จนอีกฝ่ายชะล่าใจ (พวกลูกเล่นแบบนี้ เวลาอ่านในรามเกียรติ์แล้วรู้สึกสนุกมาก แต่เว้าซื่อๆ มันก็คือการโกงนั่นเอง)
รอยเท้าเดียวของมหาภารตะในประเทศไทยคือ กฤษณาสอนน้องคำฉันท์ แต่กฤษณาของทิวากรุณีไม่มีอะไรเหมือนกฤษณาที่คนไทยคุ้นเคยเลย อย่างแรกคือเธอไม่มีน้องสาว มีแต่พี่ชายฝาแฝด ที่เทพแห่งไฟประทานมาเพื่อให้พ่อของเธอแก้แค้นศัตรูคู่อาฆาต กฤษณาของทิวากรุณีคงไปสั่งไปสอนใครไม่ได้ เพราะเอาตัวเองให้รอดก็แทบแย่แล้ว แทนที่ภาพเจ้าหญิงผู้ทนลำบากตรากตรำกับสามีทั้งห้า ทิวากรุณีวาดภาพเจ้าหญิงจิตๆ ผู้เก็บงำความแค้น ความรัก ความหึงหวงไว้ในใจ ตกเป็นเหยื่อชะตากรรม และเข้ากับแม่สามีไม่ได้ (ความตึงเครียดชิงดีชิงเด่นระหว่างกฤษณาและกุนตี ก็เป็นอีกปัจจัยหนึ่งที่นำไปสู่โศกนาฏกรรม)
สำหรับใครที่ไม่รู้ มหาภารตะ คือเรื่องราวสงครามระหว่างตระกูลปาณฑพและตระกูลเการพ หัวหอกของปาณฑพได้แก่สามีทั้งห้าของกฤษณา หนึ่งในนั้นคืออรชุน ลูกพระอินทร์ นักรบที่ได้รับการกล่าวขานว่าเข้มแข็งที่สุด นอกจากนี้อรชุนยังเป็นเพื่อนกับกฤษณะ aka วิษณุอวตาร aka อีกชาติของพระรามนั่นเอง (น่าตื่นเต้นมากๆ นารายณ์อวตารมารับบทบาทเป็นเพียงคนขับเลื่อนให้อรชุน) ส่วนฝั่งเการพมีภีษมะ บุตรแห่งพระแม่คงคา ขิงแก่ที่เผ็ดร้อนที่สุดในอินเดีย (ภาพข้างบนคือกฤษณะหมดความอดทน สู้ยังไงก็สู้ไม่ชนะภีษมะเสียที เลยเสกจักรนารายณ์มาลุยด้วยตัวเอง จนอรชุนต้องเข้าไปห้าม) โทรณาจารณ์ ผู้เป็นอาจารย์ของอรชุน และศัตรูคู่อาฆาตของพ่อของกฤษณา และสุดท้ายก็กรรณะและทุรโยธน์
น่าสงสัยไม่แพ้กันคือ ถ้ามหาภารตะเดินทางมาถึงประเทศไทยแทนที่รามายนะ ถ้าวรรณคดีที่ยิ่งใหญ่ที่สุดในประเทศไทย ไม่ใช่สงครามระหว่างความดีและความชั่วที่แบ่งแยกขาวดำชัดเจน แต่เป็นสงครามทางการเมืองอันสลับซับซ้อน ว่าด้วยวิสัยและสันดานรัก โลภ โกรธ หลงแห่งมนุษย์ ปัจจุบันนี้สังคมไทยจะเป็นอย่างไร

Answer: Look at India right now. Indian children read Mahabharata comic like Thai kids read Japanese manga. It is also Indian kids bed time story. Many Indian morals are based on Mahabharata teachings. That what would happen if Mahabharata made it to Thai culture.

Answer: If you want to know about everything about all characters in Mahabharata, you have to read from Veda translation English version, not Wikipedia. Veda is the oldest and longest ancient script in the world. The Hindus holy book.
In my opinion, most Thai people love romance and happy ending stories, life based on ideal. Good VS Bad. Black or white. Hero VS Evil. Good guys win and bad guys lose. Protagonists have no or almost no flaw while antagonists are full with it. As Ramayana is based on that.
On contradictory, Mahabharata is full with tragic and violence. All human flaws are presented on each part, both the Kauravas and the Pandava side. Human emotions also play big role in the story, negatively and positively. There is no good outcome for both at the end of the story. There is only actions and consequences. If I'm not mistaken (read the story a long time ago), Most of main characters ended with tragic or terrible death, including Krishna, an incarnate god.
Additionally, Mahabharata is filled with teachings such as moral based on Hindu religion and military tactics. Both side use good tricks and dirty tricks to fight against each other.
Mahabharata story and Ramayana traveled to ancient Khmer civilization(Cambodia) because a great Khmer queen married to a Hindu priest from India who travelled there. Hindu became Khmer religion and believe. Mahabharata and Ramayana are parts of teachings in Veda (ancient Sanskrit Hindus holy book as equal to Bible for Christianities). King Jayavarman II who built Angkor had both stories crafted on the wall. But it was only Ramayana made it to Thai culture after we devoured Khmer.
I think these are a few reasons why Mahabharata didn't make it big in Thailand. On the other hand, Ramayana which has more general moral based teachings that can blend with Buddha teachings and happy ending make it big and become a part of Thai culture.
For example, a teaching in the story that might disturb many Buddhists. Krishna taught Arjun about karma, actions and intentions while he hesitated to go to war against his siblings, relatives and his own teacher which was so contradict to Buddha's law of karma.
